MICROBIAL BIOSTIMULANTS AS RESPONSE TO MODERN AGRICULTURE NEEDS

Microbial biostimulants are receiving increased attention for their potential application in sustainable agriculture, as a powerful tool to ensure crop yield and nutritional values, as well as in adverse environmental conditions.

Plant growth promoting microorganisms (PGPMs) can be used alone, in consortium, or in combination with organic matrices such as plant biostimulants. Several studies demonstrated that PGPMs not only positively affect plant growth by modulating physiological parameters, such as hormone level, cell oxidative status, water and nutrient use efficiency, but they can also play a pivotal role as a biological tool to improve fruit quality and limit soil degradation.

Hence, the implementation of the microorganism positive list provided by EU (2019/1009), is desirable.
