Spanish Manufacturer Celebrates Half a Century of Innovation and Global Reach
UTEBO, SPAIN – SIMEZA, a leading Spanish manufacturer of steel grain silos, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025. Since its founding in 1975 as Silos Metálicos de Zaragoza, the company has grown into one of Europe’s top providers of storage solutions for cereals, flours, and industrial products.
Today, SIMEZA offers storage capacities ranging from 8 to 25,000 cubic meters, serving industrial, agricultural, and farming clients across multiple continents. Its modular silo designs enable rapid on-site assembly, while robust steel construction and advanced aeration systems ensure optimal preservation of stored goods.
“For five decades, our mission has been simple – to help customers store grain safely and efficiently,” said Alberto Baena, CEO of SIMEZA. “Reliability, innovation, and engineering expertise have been the cornerstones of our success.”
Key milestones in SIMEZA’s journey:
- 1975: Company founded in Zaragoza, Spain
- 2000: Introduction of improved corrugated steel sheet technology
- 2007: Relocation to current Utebo facilities
- 2016: Acquisition by PETKUS Engineering GmbH
- 2023: Acquisition by Sweden’s Tornum Group
Integration into the Tornum Group has expanded SIMEZA’s capabilities, combining Tornum’s expertise in grain drying with SIMEZA’s silo manufacturing know-how.
Operating under strict European Union quality and safety standards, SIMEZA holds UNE-EN 10901:2011+A1:2012 certification and works exclusively with vetted suppliers.
“Grain storage is the first critical step in the food production chain,” Baena added. “Reducing waste, increasing process control, and partnering with a trusted supplier are more important than ever. That’s where we make the difference.”
The company remains committed to its Spanish manufacturing base while steadily expanding its international footprint.
