AgriSA Leaders to Participate in B20 South Africa Summit

Cape Town, South Africa – February 24-25, 2025

AgriSA’s President, Jaco Minnaar, and CEO, Johann Kotzé, will join key decision-makers at the official launch of the B20 South Africa summit in Cape Town. The event will serve as a crucial platform for discussing economic policies that shape South Africa’s agricultural and broader economic future.

AgriSA’s Commitment to Policy Engagement

AgriSA remains dedicated to advocating for policies that promote sustainable agricultural growth, global trade, and food security. Given the evolving global geopolitical landscape, participation in the B20 summit presents a vital opportunity to address pressing agricultural and economic challenges.

“Engaging with global stakeholders at the B20 is essential, as agriculture is a key driver of sustainable growth and investment,” said Kotzé. He emphasized three core areas of focus:

  • Sustainable Trade Practices: Agricultural trade with G20 nations accounts for 55% of South Africa’s agricultural exports, valued at approximately R134 billion. Ensuring that climate adaptation, net-zero transition plans, and sustainability requirements align with trade conditions is critical for protecting South Africa’s food system.
  • Enhanced Market Access: Global market access is vital for food security and rural employment. Addressing non-tariff barriers and ensuring effective protocols for managing animal health challenges will strengthen the agricultural sector’s competitiveness.
  • Investment Confidence: The B20 summit provides a strategic opportunity to attract investments that drive economic growth, job creation, and long-term agricultural development in South Africa.

The Role of the B20 Summit

The B20 South Africa summit will convene global business leaders, policymakers, and experts to develop impactful policy recommendations that address key economic challenges. AgriSA’s participation underscores its commitment to positioning agriculture as a cornerstone of sustainable economic growth in South Africa and beyond.
