CNH Drives Sustainable Farming Forward with Biogas-Powered Tractors

CNH Industrial’s New Holland brand is leading the charge in sustainable agriculture with innovative alternative fuel solutions. At the forefront is the T7 Methane Power tractor, a breakthrough designed for farmers ready to embrace renewable energy without compromising performance.

Our latest A Sustainable Year feature highlights French farmer and biomethane pioneer Christophe Rousseau, who was invited by New Holland to trial the T7 Methane Power. After extensive field testing, Rousseau confirmed that the tractor performs “every bit as well as the diesel variant.” New Holland engineers equipped the T7 Methane Power with a 657-liter (173 US gallons) gas tank, providing enough fuel for a full eight-hour silage shift—demonstrating that sustainable farming can match traditional efficiency.

Biogas is rapidly gaining traction in the agricultural sector, and CNH has been a long-standing innovator. The company has also invested in Bennamann, a UK-based start-up developing on-farm fueling stations and micro-digesters that convert cattle manure into tractor fuel. Rousseau’s farm in Domecy-sur-Cure serves as a living example of how renewable energy can transform modern agriculture, proving that sustainability and productivity can go hand in hand.
